@claudeai Jul 12: Fable 5 promo + 50% higher Claude Code weekly limits extended through July 19, 11:59pm PT. Polymarket priced 25% Yes — wrong again. explainx.ai maps help-center terms, credits cliff, and GPT-5.6 pressure.

Fable 5 Extended to July 19 — Anthropic Keeps 50% Weekly Cap & Higher Code Limits

Update — July 19, 2026: @ClaudeDevs extended Claude Code weekly limits 50% higher through August 19 (2.2M+ views). Combined with July 20 Fable return on Max/Team Premium. Full July 18 retention guide · July 20 plan matrix

Update — July 18, 2026: @claudeai (7:44 AM) — from July 20, Fable 5 included on Max + Team Premium at 50% limits; Pro + Team Standard stay on usage credits + one-time $100 credit. Supersedes this July 19 cliff. Full July 20 plan matrix.

Update — July 18, 2026: 30-minute Fable 5 access glitch (~18:30 UTC Jul 17) — false "usage credits required" on claude.ai + Claude Code; fixed by ~19:43 UTC with refund + matching credits for overcharges. Not the July 19 cliff early. Full incident recap.

Update — July 13, 2026: Rob Hallam hospitalized after all-night Fable binge ahead of cliff — stress admission same evening as this extension. Yuji Tachikawa Fable string theory anecdote — Kavli IPMU physicist reports 6-month collaborative stall broken with SymPy verification (Jul 12 social chain).

Anthropic moved the goalpost again. On July 12, 2026 at 10:32 PM, @claudeai announced a third extension of the Fable 5 promotional access — through Sunday, July 19, 11:59:59 PM PT — plus 50% higher Claude Code weekly rate limits for the same window.

The Help Center article now reads "Updated today" with the new date. Same rules: up to 50% of weekly limits on Fable at no extra charge, then usage credits or switch models.

Polymarket priced another extension at ~25% Yes. Wrong again — after July 7→12, the cliff slides one more week.

What @claudeai said (verbatim)

"We're extending Claude Fable 5 access on all paid plans, as well as keeping Claude Code's weekly rate limits 50% higher, through July 19."

Follow-up:

"As before, you can use up to half of your weekly usage limit on Fable 5. After that, you can continue using Fable 5 with usage credits, or switch to another model to keep working within your remaining limits."

Nothing to claim or activate — Fable draws from existing weekly buckets, faster than Sonnet/Opus.

Help Center — official terms (updated July 12)

From Claude Fable 5 promotional access:

TopicRule
Promo periodJuly 1 – July 19, 2026 · 11:59:59 PM PT
Included FableUp to 50% of weekly limits
Past 50% Fable capCredits or other models
Claude Code version2.1.170+ for Fable
Shared limitOther models eat the same weekly pool — not independent 50% silos
Post-promoFable not in weekly limits · credits only

Example from FAQ: If you already used half your weekly limit on Sonnet, only half remains for Fable — even though Fable's own cap is 50%.

Why Anthropic extended (again)

PressureMechanism
GPT-5.6 Sol GA Jul 9OpenAI undercuts on $/task · Tibo claudex endorses CC+Sol
Grok 4.5 in CursorThird frontier option same week
Subscriber backlashJuly 7 cliff triggered extension email
Max plan retention$200/mo hard to justify credits-only
X sentiment@amihai: "thanks openai for putting the image below in anthropic's head"

@tinygrad joked about businesses loving "random last minute policy changes" — the pattern is now predictable unpredictability: extend at the cliff, don't commit long-term.

Polymarket post-mortem

MarketPre-announceOutcome
Extend by July 12?~25% YesYes — July 19 extension announced July 12 PM
Volume~$41.7KRetail underestimated retention levers

explainx.ai read: Anthropic uses short extensions as a competitive dial, not a pricing commitment. Traders who priced 75% No on July 12 evening missed the third reprieve — same error as July 7 bears.

X reactions — fatigue vs relief

ReplyTheme
@Motorv8tion"I feel like i'm in an abusive relationship with Claude"
@tinygradPolicy whiplash satire
@systemdesignonewhile(true): — extension loop meme
@amihaiCredits OpenAI/GPT-5.6 for forcing Anthropic's hand

Relief for builders with Sunday deadline anxiety; fatigue for anyone planning around stable billing.

What to do before July 19

  1. Use included Fable — 50% weekly cap still free through July 19
  2. Track /usage — shared pool with Sonnet/Opus; Fable burns faster
  3. Enable credits — only if you expect to exceed cap before July 19 and after
  4. Default Sonnet 5 for routine — advisor patterns for orchestration
  5. Benchmark alternatives — GPT-5.6 Terra/Luna before committing to Fable credits post-July 19
  6. Watch July 19 11:59pm PT — will there be extension #4?

After July 19 — base case

Unless Anthropic announces otherwise:

ModelBilling
Fable 5Usage credits (~$10/$50 per M tokens)
Sonnet 5 / Opus 4.8Normal subscription limits
Claude Code rate limitsRevert from 50% boost (unless extended)

Thariq's pledge to restore included Fable when capacity allows — still no date.
