Anthropic put Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion into beta on October 8, 2026, and at the same time took Docs, Slides and Design out of beta so they work on every Claude plan, including Free. Dashboards builds a self-updating dashboard from your data warehouse with one prompt. Motion turns text, charts and images into an animated explainer you can export as an MP4. The details come from Anthropic's announcement, also reported by The Decoder.

What Claude Dashboards actually does
Anthropic describes the problem plainly: asking questions about company data usually means filing a ticket or writing SQL. Dashboards lets you connect a data platform and ask in natural language. Named sources include Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake, and it also works with other connectors, for instance a dashboard of Salesforce opportunities. Connectors are built on the same idea as MCP, which we explain in our guide.
Three design choices stand out:
- Every number is inspectable. You can click any figure to see the query behind it or ask Claude to explain it. Each chart also shows when its data was last refreshed.
- It is meant for quick, exploratory questions, like how this week's signups compare with last month's, not for replacing your BI stack.
- It hands off. When a question needs deeper analysis, you can send the dashboard to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog or Sigma. Looker, monday.com and Tableau are listed as coming soon.
That handoff list is a signal about positioning. Anthropic is not trying to out-build dedicated analytics tools; it wants Claude to be the first stop where a non-analyst asks a question, then pass the work on.
What to check before trusting a dashboard
An auto-built dashboard is only as good as the SQL the model writes and the permissions of the connector. Because queries are visible, review them the first few times, especially for joins and date filters. Confirm the connector uses read-only credentials, and check whether the refreshed timestamp matches your expectations. Anthropic's pitch is that Claude makes the first version and you decide what is shared, which is a reasonable control but not a substitute for review.
What Claude Motion does
Motion is aimed at the slide that would land better in motion. Anthropic's examples: turn a quarterly report into a 30-second explainer for an all-hands, add motion to a chart in a board deck, or make a product walkthrough for customer onboarding. You prompt, the animation plays like a short video, and you can adjust it in an editor or by asking Claude, then download an MP4.
The notable detail is how it works. Anthropic says Motion is built for explaining your own work: Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes and images, and it "doesn't use a video generation model." That means no generated footage and no AI-generated people, and every word, number and timing stays editable. For anyone who has seen a text-to-video model garble numbers on a slide, that is the point. If you want video from generated footage, our video generation guide covers that category; Motion is closer to programmatic motion graphics.
To go further, Anthropic lists Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI and Runway as places to open the result, with Canva and Captions coming soon. Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise only, so individual Pro and Max users do not get it yet.

Docs, Slides and Design leave beta, and reach Free
Anthropic says people have made more than 45 million docs, decks and designs since these tools arrived in every Claude conversation, and that it is removing the beta label. It lists several changes:
- Enterprise readiness. Artifacts now support customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK), and admins choose which artifact templates the organization uses.
- Co-editing. Your team and Claude can work on the same doc, deck, design or dashboard.
- Sharing. Slides, designs, dashboards and animations can be shared outside your organization or via link, if your admin allows it.
- Exports. PowerPoint and PDF downloads keep editor formatting, and decks can go to Google Slides as editable files.
- Mobile editing. You can edit a doc, deck or design in the Claude mobile app.
For context, this follows the earlier Docs, Slides and Design chat merge and the Google Docs, Sheets and Slides sidebar beta. The Free-plan availability is the headline for individual learners: you can now draft a deck or design in Claude without paying.
Claude Design moves into Claude: your December 14 deadline
Claude Design began as a standalone site, which we covered at its Anthropic Labs launch and in the June design-sync update. Since September 16, Design also works inside every Claude conversation, where it can use your context, files and connectors. Anthropic says running two versions slows fixes for both, so the standalone site will close.
What it says you need to do:
- Migrate design systems now. On the Artifacts page in Claude, click "Migrate team design systems." One migration brings over every design system in the organization; originals stay unchanged in the standalone version until it closes.
- Projects need nothing yet. They keep working in the standalone version until closure.
- Save chats and comments. Those stay in the standalone version and will not be available after it closes. Public links to standalone projects also stop working.
- Read Anthropic's migration guide.
The standalone site remains at claude.ai/design until December 14, 2026.
Enterprise admin checklist
For Enterprise organizations the defaults differ by feature. Dashboards and Motion are off by default and can be turned on in Organization settings under Artifacts. Docs, Slides and Design turn on by default October 15, or you can enable them today. Because Dashboards touches data warehouses and sharing can extend beyond the org, decide the sharing policy and connector permissions before switching it on. Sharing outside the organization only works if your admin allows it.
What people will ask next
Is this a BI replacement? Anthropic itself says no: Dashboards "work alongside" BI tools and is best for quick questions.
Is Motion a Sora or Runway competitor? Not directly. It animates your own content with code, so it won't produce cinematic footage, but it will keep your numbers exact.
Is it free? Only Docs, Slides and Design are on Free. Dashboards needs a paid plan and Motion needs Team or Enterprise.
Does this affect usage limits? Anthropic's post does not describe any limit changes. Check your plan's current limits, and see our coverage of Claude Code limit changes and user reactions for context on why people watch this closely.
Prompts worth trying first
Anthropic's own suggestions are a good starting set: "Build a dashboard of this quarter's revenue by region," "Animate how our pricing plans compare for the sales kickoff," and "Turn these notes into a deck for Monday." Its advice is to start with the dashboard you would otherwise wait on, or the report that needs more than a slide.
A few practical ways to get more from the first run:
- Ask a question you already know the answer to. Compare the dashboard's totals against a report you trust, and open the query behind the number if they differ.
- Name the time window and the grain. "Weekly signups for the last 12 weeks, by plan" leaves less room for the model to guess than "show me signups."
- Treat Motion as a storyboard tool. Because the animation is code, you can change one number in a chart and re-export instead of regenerating the whole clip, which is the main advantage over footage-based video tools.
- Use the handoff. If the dashboard raises a follow-up that needs cohort analysis or alerting, send it to the analytics tool your team already uses rather than stretching the beta.
None of this is verified by independent testing yet; these are suggestions based on what Anthropic describes, and the features are brand new. We will add hands-on findings as reports come in.
The takeaway
The release is Anthropic extending Claude from a chat window into a workspace that produces finished artifacts: documents, decks, designs, now dashboards and animations, all editable and shareable. The practical decisions are small but real: Free users can start using Docs, Slides and Design; Team and Enterprise buyers can test Motion; analysts should test Dashboards against a known question where they can check the query; and any team using the standalone Claude Design should migrate before December 14.
Details are accurate as of October 8, 2026; both Dashboards and Motion are betas and may change.
