Auto (and Cursor Router's Auto mode) analyzes the task and routes it to the model Cursor judges best suited — frontier models for hard reasoning, cheaper models for routine edits. As of August 24, 2026, Cursor prices Auto from the routed model's rate rather than a single flat Auto rate, and says that for most requests this is a higher draw than the old flat rate. Cursor also says the models Auto routes to are not changing. Auto still consumes the included Cursor Models pool on a subscription.
